With a nod to Elizabeth Barrett Browning and
…an apology to her and you for my uneven verse, feeble rhymes, and discordant cadence.
How do I (the opposite of love – fill in the blank) thee? Let me count the ways.
I (blank) thee because in these past 100 days
You have invaded my life
Making fear and sorrow rife.
Worries about destruction of my modest income
Make me fret and wish this and other threats
Was something to laugh at – like a mindless sitcom.
I (blank) thee because your deeds
Have engendered dread among my friends and progeny
Creating angst about safety and stability
Triggering them and me to be very crotchety.
I (blank) thee during the morning and evening news
Which overwhelmingly brings on the blues.
I (blank) thee fully and clearly
In the shower, on a walk, in my kitchen – either late or early.
But my (blanking) thee doesn’t destroy my hope
That I am not a dope
To have faith that common sense will prevail, and
This too will pass
Along with other things from history
That turned out to be
Short-term pains-in-the-(rhymes with pass – fill in the blank.)
LOVE it!!!!
A great pick me up , cute, funny and hopeful👍
Thanks for another delightful offering!
Ellie
Glad you like it! I had fun writing it!
Right. We’re no dopes. We got hopes!
Fran! That’s a great slogan!
WE’RE NO DOPES. WE GOT HOPES!
I only watch the news on pbs because it is realistic, etc. you could say hate and use the true emotion. The boy and his followers are cruel people idiots.

Rachel, I put in the ‘blank’ so that people could fill in their own feelings about “the boy and his followers.”
Thanks!!
Thank you Marian for giving me a giggle .
I try to have at least one every day.
Sadly, I have found them harder to find lately.
So glad I gave you a something to giggle over. Check out my the comment from my friend, Les:
Yes: We’re no dopes.
We got hopes!
Why does he want to look like popes?

Love it!!!
Love it, Marian. What sass!
Dottie,
I had a lot of fun writing this!!
Thanks for that. Gets scarier every day. At least the protest crowds are getting bigger, and large crowds show up at Republican districts to hear Democrats conduct the Town Hall Republicans are afraid to lead.
Helene,
Yes, scarier and scarier. We have to speak up!!
I love your writings since they come from your heart
Unlike his words which deserve to be followed by a (does not rhyme with pass !)
Javad,
Thanks. We have to keep raising our voices in opposition to what is happening!
Thanks for expressing your and our dismay and outrage. Yes, hope it will turn around and be part of unfortunate time in history. Stay in the resistance!
Nancy, Each day, I feel more and more that I have to be part of the resistance in whatever small way I can. Thanks for your post. I really appreciate it.
